What are the differences between sunblock and sunscreen?
Sunblock is a physical barrier made from zinc oxide or titanium oxide that sits on top of your skin and blocks the sun’s rays, while sunscreen is a chemical barrier made from ingredients like oxybenzone , octinoxate and avobenzone that absorb and filter the sun’s rays. Sunblock has longer-lasting protection while sunscreen must be re-applied more often to maintain protection.
Do babies need to use sunblock?
Yes, babies need to be protected against harmful UV rays when they are outdoors. Sunblock helps to prevent skin cancer.
Is Solar Lotion a sunblock or a sunscreen?
Solar Care Lotion is sunblock as it contains titanium dioxide, a mineral that reflects harmful UVA and UVB rays.
Is Solar Care Lotion safe for newborns?
Yes it is safe for newborns. However, covering up with proper clothing and seeking shade is still important to protect them from sunburn and harmful rays.
How often should I apply Solar Care Lotion?
We recommend re-applying this product every two hours, especially if your child will be spending a lot of time under the sun.
Can you recommend any after- sun care for my baby's sunkissed skin?
Precious Newborn Cream or Happy Baby Cream have high concentrations of soothing Organic Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, making these products effective for after- sun care.
What does SPF stand for and why does Solar Care Lotion only have an SPF of 25?
SPF, or Sun Protection Factor, is a measure of how well a sunscreen will protect the skin from UV rays. Our Solar Care Lotion is SPF 25, which means that with the right application, it can block 96% of harmful UV rays that come in contact with your baby's skin. For comparison, SPF30 blocks 97% of harmful UV rays, which is a marginal amount.
